History of the Ellendale church of Christ

The earliest efforts in establishing a congregation in the Ellendale community date back to 1955, when brethren living here had a meeting with the Berclair congregation. The initial results were two tent meetings, one in 1955 and another in 1956, sponsored by Berclair. Since several of the members living in the Ellendale area attended the Raleigh congregation, much of the planning and preparation took place there. The first business meeting was held in the home of A. T. Moore, on April 4, 1960.

Beginning in May of 1960, meetings were held each first Sunday at the Raleigh building. In August, about 40 members agreed to obtain a loan for $15,000 to construct the first building, a residential type with a full basement, to be used for worship services. Today this serves as the '“preacher’s home”. The building was completed in late 1960 and the first service was held on the first Lord’s Day , 1961. The auditorium was completed in the fall of 1963 and the Annex was built in 1977-1978.

Over the years, several ministers, ministries, elders and deacons have come and gone from the congregation, however, one thing has remained constant - Jesus Christ is Her Savior and Lord.
